Whirlpool 4396841 PUR Side By Side Refrigerator Push Button Fast Fill Water Filter 1-Pack
Good Filtration But...
We purchased a new Whirlpool refrigerator earlier this year. The new refrigerator has all the marvelous improvements developed in the last ten years for refrigerators including a water filter.
The water filter really does deliver better water. However the water filter seems quite expensive to me. Whirlpool and other manufacturer's that use this type of filter recommend the filter be replaced twice a year whether you need to replace the filter or not.
The filter is relatively easy to replace but be aware of what happens when you pull the filter. To remove the old filter you push a button next to the filter typically to the left of the filter. Then pull on the cap covering the filter and pull the filter out. Make a note of how the filter was oriented when you pull it out.
The filter will now begin dripping water so have a paper towel or small bowl available to let the water drip into. You can either let the filter finish dripping into a sink or throw it into a plastic bag that you can seal to keep the water from dripping out of the bag. Be sure you remove the cover from the filter before you toss it. On our Whirlpool the cover twists counterclockwise for removal.
Install the filter cover onto the new filter. It takes just a twist to lock it into place. Holding the filter so that the two straight pieces on the end of the filter are vertical with the open portion of the filter cover oriented on the bottom slide the new filter straight into the filter cavity until the button on the left clicks to let you know the new filter is locked into place. Note that these instructions are for a Whirlpool but I believe most other refrigerators are similar. You should be ready to go!
Had I known refrigerator water filters were so expensive I might have gone with a refrigerator without one though our local water has a lot of chlorine in it (which is filtered out by the filter).
As with many modern conveniences this water filter represents a convenience that you did not know you needed until you had it. Now that I have it I am wondering whether I want it since I have to spend a chunk of change each year in filter replacements. Oh well. I guess I can sleep more soundly knowing that the water filter is now removing a bunch of stuff from my water that my body either did not want or need.
Good luck!

Maytag UKF8001 Puriclean II Refrigerator Cyst Water Filter
NO NEED TO CHANGE FILTER YEARLY FOR MOST USERS
This filter is rated at 750 gallons capacity. If the consumer uses one gallon of water per day in the form of water from the refrigerator dispenser and ice from the ice dispenser the filter will last 750 days; i.e. just over TWO years. In general there is no reason to replace the filter yearly unless you have a really yuccky water source.
In a small household of two adults the filter should last considerably longer than two years. Furthermore with the addition of a filtered water dispenser at the sink (such as a GE undercounter unit) the refrigerator filter would be functional for a few years. The undercounter units have a quite large capacity and some use two filter cartridges.More detail ...

PUR CRF-950Z 2-Stage Water Pitcher Replacement Filter 3-Pack
Like the old design better.
I've been using this filter for many years now and we feel good that PUR filters filter out more unhealthy stuff in the water than other brands do. However the new design for this replacement filter doesn't come with the red moving reminder (for you to know it's time to change the filter) anymore. I don't know the reason why PUR would give up such good design. Now they tell you to just change the filter after a certain time. I still think the reminder design is more accurate since it goes by how much water that's gone through the filter not by how many days.More detail ...

Cuisinart DCC-RWF Replacement Coffeemaker Water Filters Set of 2
Freshwater Fluid Flows Freely From Fine Filter!
I live in Seoul South Korea where it is inadvisable to drink water directly from the tap. Unless that is your idea of a good time is to let a little amoebic dysentery cozy up and get friendly with your colon.
Okay so the water isn't ALWAYS that scary to drink. Just uh just most of the time.
Even when the water doesn't make you sick it usually tastes like it's been funneled through an old radiator. Coffeemakers generally speaking don't include water filters because the brewing process ostensibly kills all of the harmful bacteria. But you can still taste the heavy-metal-goodness in every last drop of leaden java. Lip smacking!
Anyhoo I purchased a Cuisinart Coffeemaker recently (oh how I love that machine) and it came with a package of these little filter fellows and let me tell you they do the trick. Gone are the filamental-flavors the taste of scalded electrical wire! All that's left is pure watery goodness the clean crisp clarity of two spic-n-span H's and one well-scrubbed O. Now if this little wunder-filter can do THAT for the brackish dreck that passes for water in Seoul imagine how much more effective it would be on YOUR water!
Uh. Assuming you also do not live in Seoul. Or er Mexico. And parts of Bangladesh. And most of Haiti. And also maybe Djibouti. (Although I think Djibouti's been getting its act together with the public water works system these days thanks to macro-economic reform programs. See the comments section below.)
NOTE: Some elements of the above review may have been exagerrated in order to titillate easily-titillated readers. Readers with tender sensibilities should not have read the previous review.

New Balance Men's M 993 (Grey 14.0 D)
Seriously the Best and Made in the USA
I still remember the first time I slipped on a pair of 991s it felt like putting on a pair of socks - fantastic. That was a couple of decades ago and I have not purchased a different brand or style of running shoe since then.
I was a bit surprised when New Balance discontinued the foam cushining 991 and replaced it with the gel cushioned 992. It took a bit of getting used to but I made the transition to 992s. With the 992s also came the option to get several different colors of 992s: the 991s always only came in grey.
I was elated to learn though that the company had again upgraded to 993s which includes a combination of foam and gel. I think they're lighter than 992s too and the feel on first putting on a pair of 993s is very similar to putting on a pair of 991s. They did keep the multiple color options of the 992 line so you can get these in black grey white.
Overall I am extremely happy with this product.
Foremost on my loyalty is the commitment that the company has to local markets. The 993s are Made in the USA and in the back of each of these shoes you can see the prominent USA in bold against an American flag. They are a patriot's shoe and they are quite popular in the military. Unlike other shoe companies that use almost slave child labor to make shoes and then sell them at horrendous profits in America New Balance provides good jobs in the US. Yes they make less profit and they endorse fewer athletes but we buyers are loyal because:
a) its a fantastic product
b) probably the best running shoe made (don't take my word try one)
c) they're made in the USA
d) the company is committed to local markets and to producing quality running shoes
No I don't run many marathons anymore (but I have in the past) and I do love these shoes and once every couple of years when my old pair of 993s get relegated to the home repair shoe I will go out and buy a shiny new pair of 993. It's always just a little bit special when I put on a new pair....
Btw my closet has a lineup from the two pairs of decade old beaten up old 991s that still come out when I do gardening to the 992s that have been recently demoted with the purchase of my 993s: Yes I still own my 991s the go through the washer now and again and they still work even after 10 to 15 years (amazing quality)....but they can't be seen in public anymore.
Anyhow I hope this helps you make a decision on these shoes. It's hard to find a running shoe that has history and character like this line and I'll admit I'm a bit selfish here the more popular 993s remain - the less likelihood that they'll be discontinued before I die.More detail ...
